Dr Reshef graduated from Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University in 1978. He has trained in Internal Medicine at the Rambam Medical Center, affiliated to Rappaport Medical School, Haifa, Israel. Following his graduation in 1984 he has been awarded a stipend from the USA National Institute of Health, and joined a post-doctoral fellowship program in Allergy& Clinical Immunology at the Johns Hopkins Medical School, Baltimore. During that period, he was engaged in studies of basic mechanisms of mast cells, basophils and allergic mediators. He was also a clinical fellow and participated in clinical studies of allergic rhino-conjunctivitis. Upon returning to Israel in 1986, with diplomas in both Internal Medicine, Allergy/ Clinical Immunology, he became the Head of Internal Medicine department at the Rebecca Ziv Galilee Medical Center, Safed, and established the first Allergy Service there. In 1990 he was nominated Head of Allergy, Immunology, at the Sheba Medical Center (SMC), Tel-Hashomer. Since 2005, Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) became his main field of interest, and he established The Sheba Angioedema Research Center. He authored and co-authored >80 articles, published in leading medical journals. In 2016, as a Guest-Editor with an international team, he compounded a comprehensive review of HAE. He participated and contributed in many professional meetings and pharma advisory boards; and assisted to developing of national and international guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of angioedema. During 2013- 2015 he spent a few research periods as a visiting scientist, in the laboratory of Prof. Marco Cicardi, Milan Italy, investigating para-proteins in Systemic Capillary Leak Syndrome.
Dr. Reshef is cuerrently the Director of Allergy, Immunology and Angioedema Center, Barzilai University Medical Center, Ashkelon, ISRAEL.
As a researcher, he has been leading and participating in numerous clinical trials, aimed to improve both acute and prophylactic treatment of HAE in adults and children. His teams’ current interest is early detection of HAE attacks, by investigating premonitory signs and symptoms of angioedema (‘prodromes’). The Center currently cares for over 180 diagnosed angioedema patients of all kinds, and lead nationwide efforts to increase the awareness to the disease, and develop clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of HAE in Israel.
