I am the Consultant Nurse for Immunology and Allergy at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth where I was among the wave of new Immunology and Allergy Specialist nurses in the UK 20+ years ago. I started seeing patients in Allergy Clinics from 2000 and on completion of my MSc in Allergy from the University of Southampton Medical School in 2008, augmented by my Independent Prescribing qualification, have been holding autonomous clinics since. I set up the Immunoglobulin Home Therapy service for Devon and Cornwall and now oversee the expanded nurses’ team of 2 specialist nurses and 3 staff nurses. I have set up immunoglobulin replacement at a number of local community hospitals in Devon and Cornwall. We have a dedicated Day Unit with Outpatient clinic space for Challenge testing and Desensitisation.

I am an Assessor for the Royal College of Physicians’ Quality in Primary Immune Deficiency (QPID) scheme and a Trustee of UKPIN – the UK Primary Immune deficiency Network. I sit on the Medical Advisory Boards of HAEUK and UKPIPS. I also act as Chair for HAE-INO, the international nurses’ organisation for HAE and for SWWING the regional Immunology nurses’ group.

I hold an Honorary Clinical Fellowship from Plymouth University and have been involved in a number of research projects, clinical trials and audits which have generated publications.
